Additional Notes
This is a Provincial event. Your Team first qualifies at County level before progressing to Provincial.
- Rules as defined in the FIDE Laws of Chess will apply, except where amended by Community Games rules.
- The "Touch and Move" rule will be strictly enforced.
- Teams must consist of 5 players, numbered 1 to 5 in strength order. This declared order cannot change throughout the competition. Substitutes must play on the lowest boards in descending order.
- Teams must submit their board order in writing to the Coordinator at least 15 minutes before scheduled play begins.
- Each win scores 1 point, a draw scores 0.5, and a loss scores 0 points.
- Before each match, opposing captains draw for colours.
- Maximum playing time is 3 hours. Each player receives 1.5 hours. “Allegro” time controls apply to the final 15 minutes of each player's time.
- A chess clock may be used at the National Festival.
- Allegro Chess:
- If a player’s time runs out, they lose unless their opponent has insufficient mating material. In that case, the game is declared a draw.
- In Allegro Chess tournaments, any illegal move results in immediate loss.
- Prompting (giving help during play) will result in the disqualification of the player involved.
- Any disputes must be reported immediately to the Coordinator — not after the game has ended.
- The National Festival will use a knockout system: two semi-finals, a playoff, and a final.
- Chess sets are provided at the National Finals.
- If the match is tied by game points, the following tie-break procedure is applied in order:
- Re-count all game points excluding board 5 results.
- If still tied, re-count excluding board 4 results.
- If still tied, use the result of the match between the tied teams (if applicable).
- If still tied, re-count excluding board 3 results.
- If still tied, re-count excluding board 2 results.
