Cairn Community Games welcomed delegates from across the country to its Annual General Meeting at Bloomfield House Hotel on Saturday,12th September, with a large attendance reflecting the continued strength ofthe organisation nationwide.

The AGM marked an important transition in leadership, with Paul Doogue elected President, succeeding Gerry McGuinness, and Mary Denneny elected Treasurer, succeeding Eileen Doherty. Michael Maher was also elected to serve a further term as Munster Director.

Warm tributes were paid to both Gerry McGuinness and Eileen Doherty for their many years of dedicated service and their significant contribution to the development, governance and future direction of Community Games.

In his final address as President, Gerry McGuinness reflected on the progress made during his six years in the role, including a new Constitution, stronger governance structures and the continued development of National Finals into vibrant, family-friendly events. He described serving as President as “the privilege of a lifetime”.

Newly elected President Paul Doogue said:

“It is a tremendous honour to be elected President of Community Games. I want to sincerely thank Gerry for his leadership, commitment and dedication to the organisation over the past six years. I have enormous respect for Gerry and have greatly valued his friendship and the opportunity to work alongside him. He has given so much to Community Games and leaves very strong foundations for us to build upon. I would also like to acknowledge Eileen and thank her for her outstanding service and commitment as Treasurer.”

The AGM also reflected on a year of growth and expansion for Community Games, with more than 170,000 children and young people participating nationwide across Area, County, Provincial and National level.

Inclusion remained a major focus throughout the year, withthe organisation continuing to welcome new communities, support participationfrom diverse backgrounds and remove barriers to involvement.

New Treasurer Mary Denneny said:

“I am delighted and honoured to take on the role of Treasurer. I want to sincerely thank Eileen for the leadership, dedication and commitment she has shown throughout her time in the role. She has made an enormous contribution to Community Games and to strengthening the organisation for the future. I also want to acknowledge Gerry for his leadership as President and thank both Gerry and Eileen for the service they have given to Community Games over many years.”

Gerry McGuinness used his final address to highlight the children and volunteers at the heart of Community Games, recognising the role the organisation plays in giving young people opportunities to participate, make friends, build confidence and enjoy being part of their communities.
