Gormanston, Co. Meath/Kilcullen, Co. Kildare The Community Games National Finals for Indoor Sports, Cross Country, and Cycling concluded with great enthusiasm at Gormanston Park in Co. Meath and Kilcullen Community Centre. The event showcased the incredible talent, dedication, sportsmanship and community spirit of children from all over Ireland. Under the scorching sunshine, participants gave their all, pushing the boundaries of their abilities and demonstrating their love for sports and community. Friends and family gathered to support the children, creating a wonderful atmosphere and contributing to the event's resounding success. Minister for Sport and Physical Education, Mr. Thomas Byrne TD, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers and Community Games for organising a celebration that prioritised participation and inclusivity. He emphasised the significance of community engagement and its positive impact on young people. Mr. Samson Inuwa, a volunteer from Meath Volunteer Centre, was present throughout the event, along with a team of volunteers. On behalf of the volunteers, Mr. Inuwa extended special thanks to the people of Ireland for providing shelter and support to Ukrainian families currently residing in Ireland. Community Games organised a Novelty Race for local Ukrainian families, where each participant received a specially commissioned Community Games/Ukrainian medal. Mr. Gerry McGuinness, President of Community Games, highlighted the wonderful experience the event offered to families. He commented, "The Community Games National Finals brought together children and their families from all walks of life from the four corners of Ireland, creating cherished memories and fostering a true sense of camaraderie. It was a joyous occasion that highlighted the immense talent and the positive impact of participation in the Community Games." Mr. David Hoysted, CEO of Community Games, emphasised the inclusive nature of the weekend and commended the unwavering support from volunteers and staff. He stated, "Community Games aims to provide a platform where every child can participate and feel a sense of joy and belonging. The dedication of our volunteers and staff brings this vision to life." Commenting over the weekend, Training and Development Director, Ms. Fiona Kelly Shannon said: "Witnessing the joy and excitement of the children and their families was truly inspiring. We are thrilled to have distributed over 800 medals (including participation medals) to children from across Ireland, celebrating their remarkable achievements and recognising their commitment to sportsmanship and participation.” A special thanks to our travel partners, Bus Éireann who came along over the weekend and gave away much coveted Leap Cards amongst other treats! This weekend was a celebration of participation, sports and fun, bringing communities together and highlighting the immense talent within Ireland. Roscommon, Futsal U15 Girls Community Games Awarded Investors in Diversity Bronze Certificate by the Irish Centre for Diversity18/4/2023 Community Games, one of the leading providers of sports and cultural programmes for children aged 6 to 16 in Ireland, has been awarded the Investors in Diversity Bronze Certificate by the Irish Centre for Diversity. This certificate recognises Community Game’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in its programmes, policies, and practices.
Achieving Investors in Diversity Bronze shows that Community Games has built a strong foundation that it can use as a platform to begin embedding diversity and inclusion into wider organisational practices. The achievement of the Investors in Diversity Bronze Certificate sends a positive message to all employees, volunteers and participants and is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of every member of the Community Games team. Gerry McGuinness, President of Community Games, expressed his gratitude and pride in the organisation's achievement: "This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our staff and volunteers. We are proud of this achievement and look forward to building on this foundation to embed diversity and inclusion into our wider organisational systems." David Hoysted, CEO of Community Games, echoed Gerry’s sentiments and added; "We are thrilled to receive the Investors in Diversity Bronze Certificate from the Irish Centre for Diversity. This certificate is a testament to our commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our work, and we are honoured to be recognised for our efforts. We will continue to strive towards creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children." The Investors in Diversity Bronze Certificate by the Irish Centre for Diversity is a significant milestone for Community Games, and it underscores its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in Ireland's sports and cultural landscape. The IRFU and Community Games have agreed a new partnership to help more young people develop active and healthy lifestyles through rugby. A Memorandum of Understanding was agreed and signed by both organisations at an official event in the Aviva Stadium on March 30th. The MoU is effective immediately and is designed to forge new links between the IRFU and Community Games in the coming years. Community Games is an independent voluntary organisation with over 50 years’ success providing sporting and cultural opportunities in the Republic of Ireland. As part of the agreement, X Rugby 7s will be the format of choice for Community Games with their clubs, counties and provinces. X Rugby 7s is a seven-a-side format of the game played cross-pitch. Its popularity within Irish Rugby continues to grow as a way of attracting new players into the sport. It offers all the fun and core skills of rugby union without the need for 30 players or a full-size pitch. The partnership will also provide training and education opportunities for Community Games volunteers who want to develop their coaching skills in rugby.
